MY COMMITMENT TO CLIENTS
As a Personal Trainer, I am commited to promoting physical health and mental well-being through fitness and healthy living. My personal fitness endeavours, my experience working as an Occupational Therapist, and my skills as a Personal Trainer, allow me to educate and motivate others to achieve their fitness, functional and lifestyle goals.
MY GOAL
Having worked as an Occupational Therapist for over twelve years in a variety of settings including Mental Health, Chronic Pain, Acute Care, and Rehabilitation, I have seen a number of negative lifestyle and emotional patterns that are precursors to disability. More recently, I decided to become a Personal Trainer so that I could focus on Health Promotion by enabling others to increase control over their own health.
At STOCK Fitness & Function, my goal is to educate clients to self-manage their own health and reduce the risk factors associated with chronic disease through improving fitness. I hope to empower others to gain and maintain health in order to actively participate in tasks that are important and meaningful to them.
PERSONAL IMPACT OF FITNESS
As a mom of young children, I neglected my own needs as I focused on work and looking after my family. I often felt depleted of energy and uncomfortable in my body due to increased weight. I was so tired; I wondered if I had a medical condition. After tests were completed and came back negative, I realized I was totally deconditioned (poor physical fitness, decreased muscle strength and a lack of core stability). Even though I thought I was eating well, I was actually making many poor food choices.
The combination of starting a consistent fitness training program and totally revamping my eating habits slowly started to make a difference with my energy level. After sticking to it for about one year, I had lost 30lbs and over 10% body fat! It wasn't easy, but as I got stronger, I began to feel a sense of accomplishment and an even greater drive to continue to eat healthy and exercise. I believe that improving my fitness has allowed me to be more energetic, to participate more actively with my kids and family, and to experience more enjoyment out life.
